Vaillant Gas boiler fault F.23
Safety shutdown: temperature spread too great
Gas boilerWhat it means
Safety shutdown due to excessive temperature spread between flow and return.
Likely causes
- Pump blocked
- Pump runs with insufficient output
- Flow and return NTC connected the wrong way round
- Defective pump
Where to start
- Check that the pump is working correctly.
- Check the connection for the flow and return NTC.
- Pull out the plug (5) for the pump

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
From the Vaillant manual for the Gas boiler. Check the model on the data plate before you order parts.
