Midea R32 M thermal Arctic Mono fault P4

Discharge temperature protection

Heat pump

What it means

Error code 24. Discharge temperature protection detected by user interface and refrigerant system main PCB.

Likely causes

  1. Discharge temperature exceeds 115°C
  2. Insufficient refrigerant charge
  3. Excessive compressor load
  4. Poor heat rejection at condenser
  5. Abnormally high discharge temperature, transient temperature spikes High ambient temperature, refrigerant undercharge, expansion valve malfunction, compressor overload
  6. Dirt/blockage on air side heat exchanger, fan or air outlets
  7. Dirt/blockage on water side heat exchanger, water piping, circulator pumps or water flow switch
  8. Excessive discharge temperature
  9. Refrigerant charge issue
  10. Compressor fault
  11. Discharge temperature exceeding 105°C indicating high compressor load or high ambient/system conditions
  12. Crushed or bent pipe
  13. Blocked EXV
  14. Dirty filter
  15. Compressor current exceeding Currentmax threshold

Where to start

  1. Measure discharge temperature
  2. Monitor discharge temperature during operation Check discharge temperature reading, verify refrigerant charge level, inspect expansion valve
  3. Check compressor operating conditions

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
