Midea Heat pump fault EA
Low discharge temperature protection
Heat pumpWhat it means
Protects the compressor when discharge temperature (Tp) is below suction temperature (Th) for more than 12 minutes after compressor operates. Also triggered by running time ≥12 mins with Tp<-20°C or Tp<Th lasting 30s.
Likely causes
- Discharge temperature abnormally low relative to suction temperature Expansion valve stuck open, refrigerant overcharge, compressor valve leakage, low load condition
- Discharge temperature below suction temperature for extended period
- Low refrigerant charge or flow issue causing insufficient discharge superheat
- Tp<-20°C condition or Tp<Th lasting 30s during compressor run
- Low ambient temperature (T4<3°C) combined with low water-side temperature triggers freeze protection
- Water side temperature dropping below critical thresholds due to low flow, low ambient temperature, or system stoppage
- Flow switch leak due to faulty sealing ring
- Power cable CN28 not connected properly
- Faulty inverter power module
- Faulty three-phase bridge rectifier (3Ph models)
- Water pump leak due to faulty sealing ring
- Flow switch FS plug (CN8) is not connected properly
- The water flow in the pipe is not consistent with arrow on the flow switch
- Water flow switch rake mechanically damaged
- Abnormal state detected requiring compressor protection
- Set temperature reached (normal stop)
- Damage to cables
- Excessive number of connections
- Terminals not made to original specification
- Damage to seals
- Incorrect fitting of glands
- Abnormal system state detected
Where to start
- Monitor discharge temperature (Tp) and suction temperature (Th) during compressor operation
- Track compressor running time against 12 minute threshold for EA logic
- Monitor discharge and suction temperatures, check expansion valve operation, verify system load Monitor discharge and suction temperature differential for duration exceeding 5 minutes Monitor discharge temperature versus suction temperature for duration exceeding 5 minutes Monitor discharge temperature versus suction temperature for duration exceeding 5 minutes Monitor discharge and suction temperatures, check expansion valve operation, verify system load

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
From the Midea manual for the Heat pump. Check the model on the data plate before you order parts.
