Ideal Logic System IE fault LN

Flame loss

Gas boiler

What it means

Boiler has detected loss of flame during operation.

Likely causes

  1. Insufficient gas pressure at boiler inlet
  2. No 24Vdc supply at gas valve while flame is on
  3. Faulty spark generator or harness
  4. Faulty ignition electrode or harness
  5. Faulty detection electrode or harness
  6. Blocked condensate pipe
  7. Blocked flue
  8. Flame loss during operation

Where to start

  1. Does the boiler ignite for a short time and then extinguish? If NO, check gas pressure at boiler inlet (18 mbar). If NO, check gas supply and rectify fault.
  2. If gas pressure YES, is 24Vdc supply available at the Gas Valve while the flame is on? If NO, check wiring from gas valve to PCB for continuity; if OK, replace the PCB.
  3. If 24Vdc YES, check spark generator and associated harness for continuity and visual condition. If NOT functioning correctly, replace Spark Generator and Harness.

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
