Ideal Logic Air fault 9.1.28

Number of heat pump starts exceeded

Heat pump

What it means

Heat pump has exceeded the permitted number of starts, typically caused by short-cycling due to pipework blockages or incorrectly sized circuits.

Likely causes

  1. Blockage in pipework between Indoor and Heat Pumps
  2. Heating and Hot Water circuits not correctly sized
  3. Blockage in internal pipework
  4. Frost accumulation on evaporator due to outdoor humidity/temperature conditions
  5. Electrical interference from inadequate cable separation
  6. Water ingress from improperly routed cables or loose cable glands
  7. Inadequate corrosion inhibitor dosing leading to gradual system performance deterioration
  8. Missing or undersized system filter allowing debris into primary circuit
  9. Dwelling ambient temperature at or below 8°C
  10. Ambient air temperature at or below 1°C
  11. Dwelling room temperature dropped to ≤8°C
  12. Refrigerant leak from circuit

Where to start

  1. Check for blockage in pipework between Indoor and Heat Pumps
  2. Check Heating and Hot Water circuits are correctly sized
  3. Check for blockage in internal pipework

Safety: Isolate the outdoor unit and any backup heater, and give the inverter capacitors time to discharge before you open the electrics. Anything on the refrigerant circuit needs F-gas certification.
