Intergas HRE / Rapid / ECO RF fault 6

Flame detection fault

Gas boiler

What it means

The boiler controller has detected a fault in the flame detection circuit/ignition cable.

Likely causes

  1. Faulty ignition cable or spark plug cap
  2. Faulty ignition unit
  3. Faulty boiler controller (PCB)
  4. Gas tap closed
  5. Air in gas pipe
  6. Gas supply pressure too low
  7. No ignition / worn ignition electrode
  8. No spark / faulty ignition unit on gas valve
  9. Gas/air adjustment not correctly set
  10. Fan faulty
  11. Fan dirty
  12. Gas valve faulty

Where to start

  1. Check flow sensor detection threshold: demand must exceed 2 l/min for CH interruption to occur
  2. Inspect ignition cable and spark plug cap
  3. Inspect ignition unit

Safety: Isolate gas and power before you open the case. If you have been into the gas side, do a tightness test, and a combustion and flue check before you hand back. Gas Safe (UK) or RGI (Ireland) work only.
