Grant Euroflame fault 1
Visible smoke from flue or high smoke number
Oil boilerWhat it means
Boiler operates but produces visible smoke from the flue or registers a high smoke number, indicating poor combustion.
Likely causes
- Motor/pump fault
- Electrode/ignition fault
- Control box fault
- Oil pump fault
- Solenoid valve/coil fault
- Nozzle/fuel contamination
- Combustion air/head setting fault
- Photocell fault
- Balanced flue recirculation
- Boiler or flue blockage
- Insufficient air supply
- Faulty or worn fan
- Inadequate room ventilation
- Incorrect nozzle size or type fitted for required boiler output
- Fuel pressure too high
- Incorrect diffuser position causing poor flame pattern or combustion issues
- Debris, leaves, hair, fluff accumulation blocking air inlet
- Debris, leaves, hair, fluff accumulation on fan impeller or housing
- Worn or damaged nozzle causing poor combustion
Where to start
- Burner motor runs? NO -> Check L & N to control box -> if fail check boiler controls
- Burner motor runs? YES -> Lockout within 1 second? YES -> check motor/pump seized or tight -> NO replace motor capacitor, YES repair/replace motor/pump
- Lockout within 1 second? NO -> Lockout after 12 sec purge? YES -> check ignition spark proved -> NO check and set electrodes if still fails replace control box
